Well, there's no reason at all that the invoice numbers should start with the year. The invoice date does that.
With QuickBooks Desktop to change this you just change the number as you create a new invoice and then it becomes the new starting point for the next invoice. Does that work with QuickBooks Online?
Good day to you, David. Thanks for sharing your concern about updating the numbering preference of your invoices in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Let me help you achieve this in the program.
In QBO, we can enable the Custom transaction numbers option to set your own numbering preference. This adds an Invoice number field where you can enter any number or letter format you want. Please see the steps below to enable it if you haven't already:
Once enabled, please follow these steps to set up your numbering preferences:
Once done setting up your custom invoice numbering, QuickBooks will follow the sequence you set up. You can turn the Custom transaction numbers off to prevent accidental changes.
In addition to this, you'll want to personalize the appearance by adding specific information to your sales forms. To know more about this process, you can check out this article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
I'm all ears if you have any other concerns about invoice numbers in QBO. Simply leave the details in your reply and I'll take care of them for you. Keep safe and have a good one!
