How to enable shipping charges

Hi, @kshitij-sinha-ci.

Thank you for posting in the Community. I'd be delighted to provide information on how to enable your shipping charges.

You can enable this from the sales settings. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Account and Settings.
  2. Navigate to the Sales tab, then turn on the Shipping in the Sales Form Content section.
  3. Click Save, then Done

Once done, you're now ready to track customer transactions with shipping fees.

For additional information on how to record customer entries in QBO, see the following article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts article.

Keep in touch if you have any clarifications or other concerns. I’m always ready to lend a helping hand. Have a great week ahead.

How to enable shipping charges

I appreciate you for getting back to this thread, @kshitij-sinha-ci. I've got you some information about enabling shipping charges and discounts in purchase bills.

I can see how beneficial it is for you and your business, however, this option is unavailable in QuickBooks. As an alternative, we can set up service items for shipping charges and discounts. Then, add them to another line item when creating a bill.

To create one, please see the steps below:

  1. Select the Sales menu and choose the Products and services tab.
  2. Click New, select Non-inventory or Service.
  3. Add a name (Service charge or discount).
  4. From the Category ▼ dropdown, pick the category that best describes your product or service.
  5. Insert a description.
  6. Enter an amount in the Sales price/rate field.
  7. Choose the Income account ▼ dropdown and the account you want to use to track the sale.
  8. Lastly, click Save and close.

Once done, create the bill and enter the item for services charges and discounts in the line item. See screenshot below:

I'm also attaching this link to guide you to track bills and record the payment in QuickBooks: Enter vendor transaction

Keep in touch if you have further questions about managing your purchase bills in QuickBooks. I'll be around to help you. Keep safe!

How to enable shipping charges

What happens if the shipping charges are enabled, but it still won't let you add a shipping fee when you create an invoice?

How to enable shipping charges

Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention, @SerenaH. I'd like to share the initial troubleshooting steps for adding the shipping fee when creating an invoice in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

It seems that you've already enabled the Shipping fee option but are still unable to add the shipping fee. Let's ensure that it was saved properly.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the + New icon and select Invoice.
  2. Click the Payment options drop-down and select More options
  3. Then, enable the Shipping fee.
  4. Hit Save.

If you don't see this field on your invoices, let's check if it's a browser-related issue. You can start by opening your account in a private window, which ignores historical data. Here are the keyboard shortcuts for different browsers:

  • Mozilla Firefox: CTRL + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

If you can see the Shipping fee option when editing your invoices in the private window, then it's likely caused by your browser. You'll want to clear your browser's cache.

Additionally, you can use other devices and supported browsers to ensure everything works as expected.

Furthermore, you can refer to this article to learn how to send invoices over time as you work off an estimate in the future: Set up and send progress invoices in QuickBooks Online.
