I have a customer's credit card on file in their address info but not sure how to charge an invoice to it?

Thanks for sharing your concern here in the Community space, Linda. No worries, I've got the steps to charge invoices directly to your customer's credit card.

Before digging in further, it's best to have a QuickBooks Payment account and connect it to QuickBooks Online. With this, you can add the links or charge the invoice to your customer's credit card.

Next, you may proceed to set up your account settings for invoice payments:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Account and Settings.
  2. Click the Sales tab.
  3. Under Invoice Payments, then click the Pencil icon to edit.
  4. Enter Payment Instructions in the box provided.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Select Done.

Once done, you can set up the payment method to the customer's profile. You can refer to the steps below:

  1. Go to the Sales menu on the left navigation panel.
  2. Click the Customers tab.
  3. Locate and select your customer, then click Edit.
  4. In your Customer Profile, select the Payments tab.
  5. Select Credit Card from the Primary Payment method dropdown menu.
  6. Enter the needed information.
  7. Click Save.

You can now create an invoice and tick the Cards option under the Online Payments section.

Moreover, if you sent an invoice and the customer wishes to pay it in person, there are two viable options available to you. Firstly, you may direct them to follow the link contained within the email and complete the payment online. Alternatively, you may opt to process the payment on their behalf and match it with the existing invoice.

Here's how:

  1. Click the +New button.
  2. Select Receive Payment.
  3. In the Outstanding Transactions section, select the invoice to apply the payment.
  4. Select Credit Card in the Payment Method dropdown button.
  5. Select Enter credit card details.
  6. Enter the credit card info or select Swipe Card. To save this customer's credit card, select Use this credit card in the future.
  7. Select Save or Use this info.
  8. Select Got it, then select Save and close.

Additionally, I have this article that you can check when QuickBooks deposits customer payments into your bank account: Find out when QuickBooks Payments deposits customer payments.
