Providing the best experience with the product is what we aim for, deedurham-dca-ne.

Currently, the option to re-order the list in the Chart of Accounts is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). We can only sort the list in ascending and descending order. Here's how:

  1. Click Accounting from the sidebar menu.
  2. Choose Chart of Accounts.
  3. You can click the NAMETYPEDETAIL TYPECURRENCYQUICKBOOKS BALANCE, and BANK BALANCE to sort the lists.
  4. Select ↓ to sort it in descending order or ↑ to sort the registers in ascending order.

I've included an article about using numbers in your Chart of Accounts to help keep your records organized. If this is something our engineers need to look into, you can submit product suggestions by following these steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Choose Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Then select Next to submit feedback.

Your valuable feedback goes to our Product Development team to help improve your experience in QuickBooks Online (QBO). You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website. Additionally, you can keep an eye on our QuickBooks Blog to stay up-to-date with the latest news.

I’ve added these resources to help you manage the Chart of Accounts (COA) in QBO. You can read them to learn more:

I'm just one post away if you need a hand with exporting or importing your data or any QBO related. I'll be here to ensure your success. You have a good one.

I understand I can sort alphabetically, which is DEFINITELY not what I want.

If I use numbers, as you said, can I CHANGE the numbers if I want to reorder something in the future?

This is a shame that you could do this in the old version, but not the online version.  The online version is just not as good a product and I find it very annoying/confusing to use.

BTW, QB should also make it easier to SEARCH for these Q&A in Community, I had no way to find your post to reply to it except going back to the posting date and going through every entry. Why is there not an post # assigned which I can search on or something like that?  Or in my Notifications send me a link to it??

Just not acceptable that this feature has not been provided in QB online. The online version is really such a disappointing downgrade from the desktop version.  PLEASE FIX THIS>

I hear you, deedurham-dca-ne.

Changing the account name into a number can be an alternative. You can arrange those accounts in order using numbers.

You're thoughts for having the option to manually arrange accounts for personal preferences are being noted. Same goes with your suggestion on how we can improve the search option for Q&A Community.

In the Community, you'll have to log in to your account and go to your profile (My Profile) to be able to see the activities you made like the Replies, Post and Drafts.

I'm only a post away if you have any other concerns while working with COA or anything QuickBooks. Have a good one!
