Normally, invoices won't be automatically marked as paid if you don't use QuickBooks Payments. To isolate what's causing the problem, I'd recommend initially opening your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account through your browser's Incognito mode and retry creating invoices:
When this resolves the problem, you can proceed to clear your browser's cache. This process will remove and fix specific issues and help the program run optimally. Additionally, you can use other supported browsers to ensure everything works as expected.
Next, I'd recommend contacting our QBSE Support team if the issue persists. They have the tools to pull up your account and further investigate what's causing the problem in a secure environment. Here's how you can reach out to them:
If you need further assistance with QBSE-related questions, let me add this resource as a future help: Overview of QuickBooks Self-Employed.

Today, 1/22/24, I tried to create another invoice in the Microsoft Edge Browser, same as the previous attempt. The invoices are automatically marked as "Paid." I do not use Automatic Payments and have no way to disable that function because the program is very limited.
I tried your suggestion with the Microsoft In-Private Window. The same issue occurred.
I tried to create an invoice in the DuckDuckGo Browser. It was not marked as "Paid" in this browser. Maybe it's because DDG Browser is stopping the QuickBooks's 3rd party trackers. It blocked 67 tracking attempts from GrowSumo, Akamai, and RELX Group during the quick test of creating an invoice. I'm not sure how theft of my data from Intuit approved 3rd parties play a role in the invoice function, but it appears to have fixed it by blocking them unless something additional is going on.
Considering sensitivity of data involved with this program, piggybacking of 3rd party tracking companies is very questionable.
Today, 1/23/24, the invoices are being automatically marked as paid using DDG browser and Microsoft Edge. I'm not downloading more browsers to make an invoice. I guess the recent price increase was to pay for the engineering of additional problems.
The same integrated 3rd party trackers: GrowSumo, Akamai, and RELX Group are still attempting to steal data.
Is there going to be a fix for this soon? I didn’t get paid for 2 months because my customer said the invoice showed paid already. When you look under history , it shows when viewed then shows partial payments applied. Where are these coming from? How do I unlink payments that should be applied else where. Mine just started because my invoice was fine in March. Let me know when addressed. Until then I’ll have to go back to Square
I'm here to help you with your invoice concerns, Bella.
To make sure we're on the same page, are you using QuickBooks Online (QBO) or QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE)? Also, do you happen to have a Payments subscription?
Invoices don't get automatically marked as paid if you don't have Payments. If you're using QBSE, I would recommend reaching out to our support team for further investigation since you haven't been able to receive payments for two months.
On the other hand, if you are using QBO, it's possible that there's an unapplied payment or credit from your customer that is automatically applied to invoices, resulting in them being marked as paid.
Before unlinking the payments, please turn off the Automatically apply credits first.
To unlink the payments, please follow the steps below.
