Reconciling

I'm trying to figure out if I need to create a journal entry for some transactions that I cleaned up. I cleaned up some old transactions (that are reconciled) and the original transactions are still showing as cleared "C" in the Balance Sheet. Whenever I go to reconcile my bank account, those old transactions pop up. Should I create a journal entry to get rid of those old transactions?

Reconciling

I'll make sure you can clean up some of your old transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @Catrice1. With this, you're able to keep your financial data updated.

When the transactions really happened and the ending bank balance is correct, you can manually reconcile and mark all the original ones off at once. Then, I would encourage you to consult with your accountant if creating a journal entry is the best way to get rid of your old transactions.

Whenever you're ready to manually reconcile your old transactions, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu.
  2. Choose the Chart of accounts tab.
  3. Select the bank account, then click View register.
  4. Click the transaction to expand the view.
  5. Select the box in the checkmark column until you see an R. This manually reconciles the transaction.
  6. Choose the Save button. Repeat the process as necessary. 80.PNG

Also, I would encourage you to reconcile your accounts every month. This ensures they always match your bank and credit card statements and detect all possible errors accordingly. Then, to further guide you in doing and fixing a reconciliation in QBO, I'd recommend checking out this article: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

Please let me know in the comments if you have other reconciliation concerns and questions about managing transactions in QBO. I'll gladly help. Take care, and I wish you continued success, @Catrice1.
