Join nowWe are restructuring our business and I'd appreciate some input on how to best do this.
Lets say my business is making websites and so far I have profit and loss reports for the business as a whole.
But now I also need to be able to pull profit and loss (monthly/yearly) reports for a specific website/project only.
How do I best achieve this?
Hi there, @bepresent. I can guide you on how to generate the report you need.
You can still run the Profit and Loss report, however, you need to filter the Customer name to only display the project you need. This way, only the entries for the said project will be added to your report.
Here's how:
Once you had the information, you may print or export the report to Excel to save a copy of it.
For more tips about customizing and running the basic reports in QBO, you can open this article: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.
You also have the option to memorize your report to save its current customization settings. Check out this link as your guide: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.
Let me know if you have any other questions about running your report by job/project. I'll be right here to provide additional assistance. Keep safe!
Hi @Angelyn_T,
Many thanks for your speedy reply. However, this solution wont work for us I believe.
We don't produce websites for customers. We produce websites, cover their expenses (including marketing) and earn the income the projects generate.
Do you have any other idea how we can best generate project specific income and expense reports?
I’m chiming in to share some information about your query, @bepresent.
You can consider running a Project profitability report in QuickBooks Online (QBO). It will give you a breakdown of your income/costs and you can also customize them.
To begin, here’s how:
To know more about how the Project feature works, see this article: Set up and create projects in QuickBooks Online
In case you’d like to export a project report in QBO, these are the steps:

Hi @Kurt_M,
thanks for your reply. I believe the option you mention is not available in Quickbooks Online Essentials as I dont have the option 'projects' in my sidebar. I will do further research on how I can achieve project specific reporting and if its not possible, I will consider upgrading to plus.
thanks!
