recatagorize payments received

We just started using QB online invoicing. When receiving payments we accidently mis-catagorized the incoming payments. How do we recatagorize them after they've already been saved?

Welcome to the Community, @PS180.

 

I'd be glad to help you re-categorize your transactions in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

 

To begin, if the transaction is from online banking, you have to undo it and then recategorize it.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the Banking page, and select Banking.
  2. Under the Categorized tab, locate the transaction then click Undo.
  3. Go back to the For Review tab and click the transaction.
  4. Select the correct category of the transaction.

 

However, if you manually entered, you have to locate and edit the transactions in QBO.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon on the top menu and select Chart of Account.
  2. Find the account you want to review. Then, in the Action column, select Account History.
  3. Click the Filter icon, then select the filters you want to apply. You can use the Find field to search by amount, reference number, or memo.
  4. To remove a filter, select the X next to the filter name.
  5. Press Apply.

 

Then, edit the transactions by following the steps below:

 

  1. Find and select the transaction in the account register to expand the view.
  2. Make changes to the available fields.
  3. If you want to change something in the grayed-out sections, select Edit. This opens the full transaction form where you can make additional changes.
  4. When you're ready, press Save or Save and close.
