recording donations

Hello Community,

So my client  buys and sells avocados. There are times throughout the month were he donates boxes of avocados to a non profit organization.

I want to keep track of this for him on the QB end. What would be the correct way to do this?

It is his first time donating as well as my first time working with a client who donates. We do not keep track of inventory on the QB and just how much he purchases and he sales of the sales he makes.

Would love some input on this.

thanks,

Andy

Thanks for dropping by the Community today, Andy0593.

I’m here to help and guide you on how to properly record your donation in QuickBooks Online.

You'll need to follow these steps in order to record a product and services donation:

  1. Create an invoice for the products or services you donated.
  2. Create an account for charitable contributions.
  3. Create a product/service item called Charitable Contributions.
  4. Issue a credit memo to the customer.
  5. Verify the credit memo was applied to the invoice.

For in-depth instruction, refer to this article: How to record donations or charitable contributions.

I’m adding some articles below for future reference. These resources will guide you on how to track different types of donations in QuickBooks Online (QBO). From there, you’ll learn how to set up donation items for each category:
