remove zero balance accounts in the Balance Sheet by Class report

Hello there, @Trolltec

Glad to help you reports concerns today. In QuickBooks, we're unable to remove the account with zero balance in a report.

You'll want to consider exporting the Balance Sheet by Class report to Excel instead. This way, you can modify the data more, such as removing the items you don't want to see.

Here's an article that can help with that if needed: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop

Here's another article you can reference if needed in the future: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop

Update me here if you need more help with your report. I'll be on the lookout for your next posts.

remove zero balance accounts in the Balance Sheet by Class report

By default QB won't show rows where only 0.00's appear on a Balance Sheet.

However, if you have activity within the account that results in non-zero entries for different class columns, then that row will appear, even where the Total balance column is 0.00.

Otherwise the various class columns would have no chance to balance.

Yes, but this is more a display issue than a balancing issue.  If the account is zeroed even though there are values in each class there should be a way to exclude rows where the account total is zero even if the subtotals for the class aren't.  Additionally, at least in my case, because these accounts are zeroed and no longer used they have been made inactive.  Inactive account should NOT show or at the very least there should be a way to filter them out (Pro Tip: Selecting display Active Rows Only doesn't hide Inactive Accounts if Displaying Columns by Class because the columns have non-zero date but again there should be an option to not display inactive zeroed accounts.  It's simple housekeeping and one of the hundreds of ways Quickbooks fails miserably.  For something this basic downloading to a spreadsheet is a ridiculous solution.
