I have companies who send clients at various time throughout the month. Each month I create a new pending invoice for the company to 'collect' the individual client charges. At the end of the month I close out the invoice, send it to the company, and start over again with the next month. I have typical POS sales as well.
What I want to do is analyze patterns in the frequency and timing (day of the week, etc.) of my business. To do this I want a report that gives me all invoiced (pending and final) and POS transactions by date of service not date of invoice. Right now, I can only get information on the POS sales and closed invoices. Plus, the information on the closed invoices only shows the invoice dates on the transactions and not the acutal service dates.
Thanks for you help.
I can help you generate the report that you need, @jam99.
You can run the Average Days to Pay Summary report. This will show you how many days does it take a customer or customers to pay you.
Follow these steps:
To further guide you in customizing your report, check out this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
Please also keep in mind the accounting method used in your report. An accrual-basis report shows income whether or not your customers have paid your invoices and expenses whether or not you have paid all of your bills. While the cash basis considers your revenue and expenses when you receive a payment or pay a bill.
You can refer to this article for more information about the difference between cash and accrual basis: Differentiate Cash and Accrual basis.

Hi Mary,
Thank you for the reply. I did follow your suggestion, but what resulted was nothing close to what I am looking for.
Is there a way to either report (or export to .csv) all transaction detail (specifcally the items within an invoice)?
Hi there, jam99.
I appreciate you for following the details shared above and for coming back to the thread to add further details about your concern. With this, I'll be sharing information to ensure you're able to get a detailed report showing the invoice with the items, service date, etc associated with the invoice. Then, able to export them to a .csv file or Excel.
QuickBooks Desktop provides different reports that cater to your business needs. A report is a set of instructions that the program uses to display data from your company file. With this, I suggest running the Income by Customer Detail report and customize it. This way, you can personalize the page to view all invoices either pending or cleared and the date of services including the items.
Here's how:
For additional details on how you can customize any report that you generate, you can click on this article: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.
Lastly, please refer to this article to see a table list that contains different reports group and their details that are available in QuickBooks Desktop: Understand reports.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I followed your instructions and am now getting the individual line items (thank you!).
However, there are some issues that make it unusable.
Also, the field I am trying to use is the "Service Date" field that's been renamed to "Test Date" for the dates of the individual services performed. This column (neither service date or test date) does not appear anywhere (neither "service date" nor "test date") in the customize list in the report customization.
Any ideas?
a quick note - I was able to get the pending invoices to show up by changing the posting status filter to "either". It defaults to "posting."
I still can’t seem to get invoices (eithe posting or non-posting to show dates of line items.
Happy to see you here in the QuickBooks Community today, @jam99.
I appreciate you following the details shared above and coming back to add further information about your concern. Allow me to help share information to add service dates on your reports in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Currently, the service date option is unavailable in QuickBooks. You can manually add the service date column to your reports. But before you proceed, make sure to edit the invoice template and add the service date column.
To add the column to your template, here's how:
After that, add the service date information to your customer's profile.
Lastly, run and customize a report to show the service date on the column.
In addition, to learn more about running reports in QBDT, you may check this article: Understand reports.

Let me know if you have other concerns with managing reports in QuickBooks. I'll get back to you right away. Have a great day.
Thank you.
I already had the service date field active in my template. I had renamed it to "Test Date" and have been using it for every line item for several months. This is the field that I want to show up in the report.
I did go in and add the custom field to the customer "define fields" as you mentioned. That put the new field in the "header" section of the invoice customization section.
I have created a "Test Data Data" column that I will have to manually type in the date (in both the service date, which is what I've been using, and the Test Date Data column that I will use for the reporting I need) in order to work-around the inexplicable limitation of this software.
If I am doing something incorrectly, please let me know.
Thank you for getting back, @jam99. Let me share with you some additional information about running QuickBooks reports for your invoice transactions.
The system uses the transaction's date on the reports. At this time, adding the Service Date or the Test Date Data column is currently unavailable. As a workaround, you can either input the details on the Memo field.
Or, export your report to Excel, then add the column needed from there. You can use this link as your reference: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.

The transaction’s date being the date of the invoice?
I can see the importance of showing the correct details in the report, jam99.
The system uses the invoice date on the reports. With this, I'd recommend sending a feature request directly to our Product Development team. This helps us improves your experience with the program.
