Report to compare service items (hours) estimated to service items (hours) actual

We use desktop contractors edition. We have service items (shop and install hours) that are part of a group that we use when writing estimates, which are then converted to invoices after job is finished. Every estimate is written with a quantity of these items - shop hours and install hours - estimated. Employees clock in using the same service items and the same job names. I want a report that will compare these service hours estimated to actual. I can find reports that compare $ but not the actual number of hours.

I thought I had found it once but can't find it again! Help!

The option to run a report to compare the service items (hours) estimated to the service items (hours) actual is unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. However, we can run the Job Costs Detail report in QuickBooks Premier Contractor Edition to show the estimate and service items. Job costing helps you track the expenses for a job and compare those expenses to your revenue. With QuickBooks Desktop's job costing tools, you can see how much money you spend and make for each job. Then run the job costing report by following the steps below:

 

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Select Industry Specific, then choose Contractor Reports.
  3. Click Job Costs Detail
  4. Tap the Customize Report tab. 
  5. In the Columns search field, enter Estimate Active, Item, and Item Description.
  6. Click Filters.
  7. In the Filter search field, enter Item.
  8. Choose Multiple Items and select the service items.
  9. Tap OK, then OK.

 

Also, to come up with the report you need, we can export the report to Excel. Just click the Excel drop-down and select Create New Worksheet option. From there, you can customize the column to compare the service items (hours) estimated to the service items (hours) actual. Well that gave me the dollars value but not the underlying hours, which are the actual service items. I had never used the search columns or filters before, so that was helpful.

I have an hours report I made, it is for payroll items and duration.
