Buy nowIs there a way to do a filter on the memo field that is generic to catch all the values? I have tried a couple different ways and no luck. Memo field may contain the following -
Personal - Pest
Personal - Dog
Personal - Mower
I want to catch all those entries that start with "Personal". Nothing seems to work.
TIA

I appreciate your detailed explanation, and I’d like to clarify the situation regarding the memo fields in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @TEBlack.
When writing checks in QBDT, it's important to note that there are two distinct memo fields: the upper MEMO field and the line-item MEMO field. In your case, I noticed from your screenshot that you've included the memo Personal in the line item details for your credit card purchases.
Please know that when you filter the report by the Credit Card Purchases memo, the report pulls up transactions based on that specific memo. Consequently, if you filter for Personal but have not used this exactly in the upper memo field, you'll receive other transactions that do not contain the description Personal, as they all fall under the same credit card purchases memo.
However, rest assured that you are not limited to generating the Check Detail report for listing your check transactions with Personal as its memo. You can run the Transaction Detail by Account report to get a comprehensive view of those transactions.
Furthermore, you can export the report to Excel if you need to analyze the data further and include any relevant information specific to your business needs.

I can get the memo field on the report. I want to only display lines that have a value of "personal" or a form of "personal" in the Memo Field.
I appreciate you for getting back with more information, @TEBlack.
My colleague, ChristineJoieR, is correct about using the Filters when running your P&L by Detail report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). That said, you can customize this to see the following you want the application to look like. To do so, you can follow the steps outlined above and ensure that you selected the correct filter in the Filters tab.

So, getting back to this issue again. I'm running the "Check Detail" report. I have a transaction in that report every month for "Citicards". These are credit card purchases that I generate a check for. The account I use is "Miscellaneous Expense", and then I add a Memo of "Personal - ?????". I want to list only those checks to "Citicards", that has a Memo value that contains "Personal -". I can get the "Citicards" transactions, but when I add a filter for the Memo field the report goes blank. If I remove the filter for the Memo field I get all the info for that Check. I want this report, with the subtotals by Month, but only want these certain transactions to list that are circled in "RED"

@Jelayca V - so this works, but does not summarize by month, is that possible? It just list the transactions all together, would like a subtotal by month.
@Jelayca V - I found the total option I was looking for. Thanks for the help with this. Greatly appreciate it.
You're always welcome, @TEBlack.
