Reports

In a class quick report, both the expenses and income are showing positive numbers when I run it. This does not really make sense as expenses should be considered deductions towards the total... This report is more detailed and would be much better for individual classes to look into vs a P&L for this specific company.. Any ideas?

Reports

I'll provide some information about reporting works in QuickBooks Online, Daniel.

QuickBooks displays reports based on a set of instructions, and how information is extracted. It looks at individual transaction lines and if a line matches the report set, it is added to the report. In general, QuickBooks uses a concept called Source and Targets to apply accounting principles and processes, when recording transactions and displaying reports. Aside from that, QuickBooks displays information depending on the report you're using.

When running a quick report, you may notice amounts that show as negative numbers. I've added this screenshot for your reference:

Therefore, I conclude that this report doesn't only show all numbers as positive as what you expected. It will also show a negative number depending on the account associated with the items. As you can see, if you choose an inventory asset, it shows up as a negative number. The same goes when you select the account directly from the list as Accounts Payable (A/R), it would also show a negative number. You'll want to utilize our Profit and Loss reports or export the Class QuickReport to Excel. Then, edit it from there so it shows up as a negative or positive amount.

For more information on how you can export your report, check out this article for more details: Export Reports To Excel From QuickBooks Online.
