Retainage Receivables and my Sales Reports-for QBE Desktop

I am having difficulty getting my usual sales reports to show the correct sales to include my Retainage Receivables.  I created a special GL as an Other Current Asset and then a special Item as a Discount using this new GL  However, my usual Customer Sales Reports do not show this portion.  It does show correctly on my BS and P&L.  Help!  I hate to create a custom report when others may run the standard sales reports and not see the correct totals.

Retainage Receivables and my Sales Reports-for QBE Desktop

Hey there, @ljw8.

Can you share with me the exact customer sales report you're using? That way, I could check it here on my end and help you fix the problem.

Any further info would be much appreciated. Have a good one.

Retainage Receivables and my Sales Reports-for QBE Desktop

Sales by Customer Summary and Detail.

It appears that all the basic Sales Reports filter Item ... All sales items.

I am using a new item type as Discount, but goes to my new GL for Retainage Receivable.

I do not want to customize a special sales report since others like mgmt. may also run one of these reports but will not get the true sales for the month, since it will not show up.

Retainage Receivables and my Sales Reports-for QBE Desktop

Thank you for that information, @ljw8. I'm here to share my insights on which reports the retainage receivables will appear in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Retainage receivables are considered current assets. Thus, it will show in transaction reports, such as the Balance Sheet and Profit and Loss. Sales reports, such as Sales by Customer Detail and Summary, only include detailed information about the sales made to your customers. They don't display withheld payments.

Furthermore, you can read this article for additional information on running reports. It contains all available reports and a series of articles that covers its functionality in QBDT: Understand reports.
