Buy nowHello! When I print old reports from a year two ago some of the customer data like FEIN or City is blank.. the information was added after these sales were made.
Is it possible to make customer data retroactive? In other words if I enter their FEIN now - have it show on all reports regardless of date?
we are getting a fuel tax audit and as of this year all customer data was up to date but at the time of sale in 2020 it was not
Welcome to the Community, @Joefuelguy.
I'll help you run a report that will show additional information of the customers.
In QuickBooks Desktop, customer data is associated with the specific transaction date. Therefore, if you enter customer data now, it won't automatically update the historical reports from previous years.
However, there is a workaround you can try to make customer data retroactive on reports. You can edit the historical transactions and manually add the FEIN or City information for each customer.
Here's how:
Repeat these steps for each customer you want to update the historical data. By doing this, the updated customer information should now appear on the reports for the respective transactions.
For future reference, you can read this article about customizing reports to show the details you need: Customize reports in QuickBooks Desktop.

I have a few thousand transactions to do that I need the customers fein showed on.. but we just put it in today..
so there is not a way for that to be applied to all?
I understand I can manually do it but that is not an option.
I can see the relevance of updating the customer data and applying it to all, @Joefuelguy. We can submit feedback to our product developer in QuickBooks Desktop.
The option to update customer data is by adding them manually, and the option to retroactively customer files isn't available in QuickBooks Desktop. With that, we recommend submitting feedback.
