The Sales by product/service summary shows the cogs column when in accrual but when I switch to cash it is removed. I need this report for commissions. Am I doing something wrong?
Let me be the first to welcome you here in the Community, @Lisanutmeg. I'll share my thoughts about the COGS column not showing while in the accrual accounting method.
When you select the cash basis method, the COGS are realized as an asset account and only show once the invoice is paid. However, if you select Accrual, the COGS has realized whether it's paid or unpaid invoice. This is why it doesn't appear in the report. If you want to view the COGS on a cash basis, the best option would be to run the P&L or the Balance Sheet report.

It shows up under cash and accrual in desktop pro but online it does not show up under cash. Why is that?
It's my priority to elucidate things for you, @Lisanutmeg.
QuickBooks Desktop and Online has distinct interface. This is why the COGS isn't showing on your QBO report on a cash basis. Apart from that, the Online version is in its phase of continual improvement to have the same usage and features as QBDT.
I can see its relevance, and your feedback is much appreciated. That being said, I suggest sending a recommendation to our product developers. They'll review this idea and might consider updating it in the future.
