Sales and commissions are a major part of our company. We recently made the switch to QBO and found this was missing with no ground made on it in eight years.
Does anyone know if anything is being done and why/why not?
If not, does anyone know if there are any third party applications available to draw these sales reports?
We aren't going to switch to "projects" or location tracking to monitor our sales reports. Its a simple necessity of most businesses and should have had something by now.
I sent a private message.
Hope it helps.
Thank you for posting here in the Community, @AlchemySoundandVision.
Currently, the workaround for your concern is to access the projects or class tracking features. However, Intuit has supported third-party apps that can help you generate the report you want. You can visit this site apps.intuit.com and from the search bar, type the sales rep as a keyword. There are several apps that you can choose to achieve the feature you want.

I still posted because it needs to keep being brought up until they do something to help this directly.
Hi - Just curious on this private reply. We used this heavily in Desktop, and are looking to see what our options are to access this data in QB Online now. Like others, this is a major part of our business and usage. Thanks!
Do you need to access historical sales rep data in your old company file?
Which QB Desktop year version did you use? Can you still open the file?
Yes, we do still have the file (using Quickbooks Desktop Pro 2023 with about 15 years of data). We can access it there, but didn't realize the 'Rep' field would not be accessible to use with sales and reports in Quickbooks Online. Still hoping there's a workaround to use the custom field.
You have to create a new class and then enter that in each line item. Then you can build a custom report that tracks transactions for the class you picked. It's petty but quickbooks online doesn't offer much of any support or updates to their service.
Thanks! Any thoughts on if it's better to use a Class or the Location field? Just curious if any nuances or pros/cons before we commit
We use both. Location is coded to specific customers and class is coded to our sales rep that takes lead on those customers.
I always recommend our clients using the custom field feature to record the sales rep data.
You may need to use the Class or Location for other purposes.
Once your license of QBD 2023 has expired, you can use the trial version to access your historical data for good if required.
Thank you so much for the reply! This originally made the most sense to me as well, and we have upgraded to the highest package in order to get full use of the custom fields. But it seems the location and class fields are more versatile when grouping and running reports… just from what I’m reading, particularly a ‘Sales by Rep Summary’.
Have you found any limitations of using the custom field, that might make class or location a better choice?
Thanks again!
