Sales Reporting to set aside defectives and samples

I'm using Desktop Pro 2019. Is there a way to set up a report so that when I print off the monthly sales report, whatever defectives and samples we have sent out aren't shown in the sales report?
What I've been doing is setting the defectives we replace, and the samples, as customers. Our dollar amounts are correct (because the defectives and samples are "sold for $0.00), but I have to go back through the defectives and samples to get the correct number of units sold.

Is there any easier way to do this? All my research so far has said that this is the way to go.

Thanks for getting back @SalesDGTNA.

Allow me to step in and help provide additional information about customizing your Sales report that won't show the defects and samples.

You can open the Sales by Item Detail report so we can filter this to greater but not less than .01. This will enable to change the numbers.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and select Sales.
  2. Click the Sales by Item Detail.
  3. Go to the Customize Report tab.
  4. On the Filters folder, choose Amount.
  5. Select the button for >=, and type in .01.
  6. Once done, click OK.

Let me know how it goes. I'll be on the lookout for your reply if you have additional questions about generating this report. I'm always here to help however I can.

Sales Reporting to set aside defectives and samples

Thanks for checking in with us, SalesDGTNA.

It's a delight to help you run a report that will not show defectives and samples that have been sent out.

The good thing with QuickBooks Desktop is you can customize the Sales Report and have the advance options for Display Row and Display Columns to Non-Zero balance. Let me show you the steps on how to do it:

  1. Go to Reports.
  2. Click Industry Specific.
  3. Choose Manufacturing and Wholesale Reports.
  4. Select Sales Report by Product.
  5. Click Customize Report.
  6. From the Display tab, click Advanced.
  7. Under Display Rows and Display Columns, fill in the radio button for Non-zero.
  8. Click OK.

I have included a screenshot and the article, should you need reference: Customize customer, job, and sales reports.

There you have it. Let me know if you have other questions while working with Sales Reports in QuickBooks. I'm always happy to help. You have a wonderful day.

Sales Reporting to set aside defectives and samples

Thank you for the reply. Under the Reports tab, either I do not have, or am somehow missing, the "Industry Specific" selection. I do have a sales report that is, "Sales by Item Summary", but applying the filters to that the way you suggested doesn't change the relevant numbers at all.

Thanks for all your help!
