I have a stupid question - only cause my brain is fried. I am connecting out POS system to QBDT. I need to integrate the Sales Tax. I know I’m crediting Sales Tax Payable on the GL, what do I debit when it transfers in? Am I thinking about this too much?
Welcome to Community, @MPerk.
I'll share some information about integrating sales tax. QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) uses the item's account specified when POS transfers item sales. This process happens once you perform the financial exchange.
To learn more about the file exchange activity and set up, check out these guides:
In your case, you'll want to make sure you're using the correct sales tax account for your items. Please know that QuickBooks POS uses Sales Tax as the default account mapping and Sales Tax Payable in QBDT.
If you need to adjust the amount of your ledger, you can create a journal entry. This way, you're able to transfer money between accounts. I recommend consulting with an accountant to ensure you're debiting the right account.
I'm adding this link here in case you need help with other QuickBooks POS-related tasks. It contains topics with articles to guide you along. Just choose a title that'll fit your concern: View all help for QuickBooks POS.
With this, your sales, payments, inventory, and customer data sync seamlessly with QuickBooks Desktop, so you're ready for tax time. The data syncs automatically at the Chart of Accounts level, so your books are always up to date.
Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns with sales tax or with POS file transfers. I'm more than happy to answer them for you. Take care and have a good one.
The debit will be to your bank account. This is the cash you collected from your customer to cover the sales tax.
