Join nowI am running a Build Assembly. The Build Assembly view, now in a Pending Non-Posting state shows a real time report that ENG-00060 needs 88 parts but only has 28 of stock. This is an obvious shortage. However, the Show Shortage report does not show ENG-00060 as a shortage.
Since ENG-00060 did not show a shortage, I did not order the stock. Now the job is late because I did not have the parts available to do the build.
How is this possible? Why would this occur?
BTW, I am only talking about ENG-00060 but build has other parts in a similar situation.
I need to know why this is happening so I can better understand the way this tool works. To me, this makes absolutely no sense.
Can anyone clue me in to what is going on here?
Thank you!
Phil
Hello ph99004,
The inventory quantity of an item won't be reduced if you create a non-posting transaction such as estimate/quote.
You might want to set a reorder point for the inventory item so QuickBooks will notify you if it has a low quantity moving forward.
Then, you can reorder the stocks by creating a bill. This will increase the inventory quantity of an item.
You can always get back to me if you need anything else.
Regarding: "The inventory quantity of an item won't be reduced if you create a non-posting transaction such as estimate/quote."
However, if the current quantity in stock is less than what is required for the build, would you not expect to show the part as a shortage?
A build and shortage report are both reliant on the current stock status at that moment in time. If the build calls for 88 assemblies to be built on 3/4/19 then the stock at that moment should be at issue. A non-posted build is just that - non-posted. This means the stock has not been pulled from current inventory.
So, in my situation, part ENG-00060 should have shown up in the shortage report.
I still have the same problem.
Hi there, @ph99004.
Let's go through your item list and trace where this build quantify difference is coming from.
You can view your item list by clicking on the Inventory button, and choosing Item List.
Also, you can open your Shortage report and set it side by side with your Inventory Stock Status. You'll need to pull up the same date and the same item for both reports.
By pulling these reports, you can compare them, and track the recorded transaction which changed the quantity of your build.
Please let me know if you have further question or if you have any other concerns.
