Hello there.
The option to edit or change the invoice number in QuickBooks Online is only available in the browser version and not in the QuickBooks Online Mobile app. This difference in functionality is due to the varying features and capabilities of the platforms.
To change the invoice number, I recommend using a web browser on your computer or mobile device to access QuickBooks Online. In the browser version, you should be able to edit or change the invoice number for your invoices as a workaround. I've also added this article to learn which QuickBooks Online mobile app features are supported on mobile devices: Compare mobile app features.
You can also use this resource in the future if you need more personalized invoices and other sales forms: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
If you have any additional concerns or questions about invoices, please keep this thread in mind. Keep safe!

Well we used to be able to do this. QB really making thinking inconvenient!
We are experiencing this difficulty as well since we match our invoice numbers to our customers tickets. We also can no longer attach a photo of the customer ticket from our mobile device which makes the app actually completely unusable for us now.
I’m beyond upset about the change.
I haven’t even bee able to create an invoice on the mobile app since they changed.. I have complained multiple times with absolutely no resolution!

It's supposed to solve the problem and bring the missing data or icons back to your mobile application. However, if the problem continues, I've got this post for you with other solutions about uninstalling and reinstalling the QuickBooks Online mobile app.
As a workaround, create an invoice by logging in to your account using a supported browser by QuickBooks. Doing this will allow you to create an invoice while we're still looking for possible remedies to the issue.
I'm rooting for your success in getting this resolved, @Ludwicks. Please don't hesitate to mention me in the comment section below. I'll make sure to get back to you as soon as possible. We thank you, and have a good day, and be safe!
We use a "D" prefix in front of an invoice to label it as a draft invoice. Once an invoice is finalized, we remove the "D" from invoice to indicate it is final. We then send it to the client. We never send a "D" draft invoice to a client
Starting on 12/11/2023, we can no longer edit an invoice number. This is a real issue for us. Suggestions?
It's definitely not a perfect solution, but have you tried creating an invoice approval workflow?
I'd be happy to help you make changes to your invoice number, @WHS2.
Let's turn on the Custom transaction numbers feature to enhance your control over the transaction sequence. Here's a quick guide to get started:
Once you've completed the task, you can proceed to add the invoice number manually. QuickBooks Online will then take note of the number and keep the sequence going for you.
If the issue persists, you may open your account in your browser's incognito mode and carry out troubleshooting your browser.
When this works, you may proceed to clear the browser's cache. To remove its stored cache to ensure the program performs efficiently. I recommend using another supported browser or device if you still encounter the same error.
For future reference, If your customer pays the invoice, you can record the payment.
