Buy nowI have a transaction report broken down by a handful of accounts from our Chart of Accounts and grouped by account to see a total for each account.
However, we need the transactions sorted by date within each account. If I choose to sort using the "Date" column heading it throws our accounts out of (numerical) order.
How can I sort transactions by date for each account?
Thanks,
Lisa
Hello there, @Lochkelly. I've got some details about sorting transactions on your reports in QuickBooks Online.
I recognize you'd like to sort transactions within each account by date while keeping these accounts sorted in numerical order. However, QuickBooks Online (QBO) can only sort by one column at a time, either by date or by numerical order. Thus, sorting the transactions by date within each account while maintaining the numerical order of the accounts in the report is unavailable.
Moreover, you can gain more control over organizing and presenting the transaction data for your report with the help of these resources:

Hello,
We purchased QBO Plus for our small company this past spring. Prior to that, we used Quickbooks Desktop (since 1994) and were very satisfied with that, but over the past year or so, there was pressure from Intuit for us to move away from QBD 2021 because it was no longer being supported. QBO Plus was recommended by Intuit to be closely aligned with QBD 2021, so we proceeded with the change. The Online Plus version is very disappointing. It seems very inflexible compared to what we were used to with QBD.
One obvious concern is that we cannot seem to sort transactions within each account sensibly by date for a General Ledger report, which I thought would be a simple report. When I use the standard General Ledger report by account, entries are not sorted by date correctly -- not even in the order in which they were entered. For example in our checking account, I see negative balances on the GL report, however the actual check register is showing the transactions in the order they were entered. Am I missing something? QBO Plus feels very cumbersome. At the very least, Intuit should not be pushing satisfied QBD users away from a good product to one that seems not ready for prime time.

When pulling up the report, the dates shown on the transactions will be based on the transaction date and not on when they were created. Thus, you'll want to export them to sort the transactions on the report by the date they were entered.
Also, the balance on your account register should match the general ledger report since it populates the balances shown on your account. A negative balance on a bank occurs when you withdraw more money than you have in your account.
That said, if you have balances on the report that don't match the account register, you'll want to ensure that you modified it with the correct dates and accounting method with the accurate filters. Here's how:
