I also keep getting a notice that one transaction is uncategorized, but there's no way to figure out what it is...

Hi, Jeff. The message you received indicates that some details about your vehicle information and transactions need to be reviewed before you can successfully export your data to TurboTax.

I'm here to help you with this process and ensure you can file your taxes on time.

First, let's review your vehicle information to ensure the purchase date is correctly entered and precedes the date it was placed in service. You can follow these steps:

  1. Select your Profile icon in your QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) account.
  2. Choose Vehicle info. Then, in the dropdown list, select 2023 for the Tax year.
  3. In the Date you bought the vehicle field, review the date when you bought it.
  4. In the Date placed in service field, review the date when you started using it for work.
  5. When you're done, select Save.

Next, I'd also recommend checking if all vehicle-related transactions are categorized. Here's how:

  1. Go to Transactions.
  2. Under the Type drop-down list, select Unreviewed and uncategorized.
  3. Choose All (or a bank account where vehicle expenses are imported) from the Account dropdown.
  4. Select Custom Date from the Date drop-down list. Then, enter the Start date and End date to include the transactions in 2023 tax year.
  5. Select All in the Vehicles drop-down list.
  6. Categorize the transactions that you find unreviewed and uncategorized.

After addressing your vehicle expenses and categorizing the uncategorized transaction, export your data again. You can refer to this article for the detailed steps: Send QuickBooks Self-Employed tax info to TurboTax Self-Employed or Live.

If you also need to get your tax reports, let me add this article as a future reference: Get quarterly and annual tax info from QuickBooks Self-Employed.
