Check out the attachment linked to my comment and let me know if this helps you out. I created this PDF guide on Converting Purchase Orders to Bills a while back but the concept is still exactly the same.
The key thing is, you need to actually turn them to bills and then make bill payments if you want the paper trail linking everything together.
Alternatively, once you have it in the system as a bill, if there are matching transaction values that come through the bank feed, you can match the bank feed transaction to the open bill BUT this opens up a lot of opportunity to mix things up.
Purchase orders are non posting transactions so you cannot match to them until they are converted into a bill.
