THANK YOU!! I was doubtful that was going to work but it did!! added the C:\Temp folder, restarted QB and now all my options for reports are there!!! You are AMAZING!! QB needs to give you compensation for fixing their screw up that even their tech support couldn't solve.
Thank you for posting this solution! It worked!! You just saved me hours of time & pain with QB Support!
I totally agree with that - we are in the last two weeks of tax season - I don't have the time to upgrade and install 2024 on all the workstations for employees who do payroll - what a disgrace and even for Intuit this is the worst customer service ever. If I could find something else to use I would. Intuit knows they have a monopoly and they use it against their customers.
Now I have to provide my clients a report that they don't like and that is of no help to them.
I don't even know what to say except the thousands of dollars I spend on QB proadvisor, subscriptions for multiple workstations, payroll etc seems like I am paying for NOTHING that actually works the way I need it to. Bad enough I had to get an outside program to do GAAP financial statements - but that is another issue completely. Seems like every update there is something else that no longer works. So frustrating.
RE: Now I have to provide my clients a report that they don't like and that is of no help to them.
Why do you have to do that? You should be able to use the Excel payroll reports as usual.
@Lisa galvin Use the fix recommended by BigRedConsuling of exiting QB, adding the C:\Temp folder to your C: Drive and then log back into QB and your menus will all be like they previously were and you will get the reports as they were in the past.
Thank you @BigRedConsulting for the quick and easy fix! Back to normal now. I really appreciate it.
Yes @BigRedConsulting your solution did fix the missing "Summarize Payroll data in Excel" however there is a new problem with this fix QBs Desktop 2021 won't close. I've tried the X, Alt-F, and just close on the File Menu. Nothing works! I'm working remotely and I can't leave the Company file open. Any ideas?
@JoRwe are now having the same issue that you are. So far the exact same issue has been confirmed on 2 separate QB Desktop 2021 computers (on both computers we applied the Temp folder solution provided by @BigRedConsulting). We were so overjoyed by the @BigRedConsulting solution that we've been willing to live with the fact that we haven't been able to close QB on them for a few days. But this will need to be addressed eventually. Anyway, 5/31 is coming soon...tick...tick...tick...tick
@JoR RE: there is a new problem with this fix QBs Desktop 2021 won't close. I've tried the X, Alt-F, and just close on the File Menu. Nothing works!
Yes, I saw that as well! The only way that works for me to close QuickBooks 2021 is to use the Task Manager and end the process.
I have used Big Red fix for State reporting errors in export to excel payroll summary. Suggested $10 but free. Your recent post and solution along with advocacy to inform intuit is worth so much to a small business like ours. I fully intend to send a support Big Red as soon as I complete this post. Thank you so very much$$
This is the exact solution I needed. Thank you SO much!!!
I'm so glad to see you received the answers you were looking for here in the Community, BCA-DW! You know where to come if you ever need a hand again in the future. Take care.
That's what my menu =used= to look like a few days ago, now that whole upper section regarding Excel is gone! More quality Intuit programming...

BigRed's solution seems to have worked for me, too, though I still get the error message when opening the spreadsheet. Something =else= that's been around for at least 4 years that Intuit's =brilliant= team hasn't fixed.

This worked, thank you so much!!! You saved me lots of time and struggle.
When I open the P/R summary in Excel, I get this message; "We found a problem with some content in 'QB_Payroll_Link.xlt'. Do you want us to try and recover as much as we can? If you trust the source of this workbook, click 'Yes'". I click Yes, and it opens just fine. I only need basic info from the file, so it's not a huge deal, just annoying.

I'm also now not able to exit QB normally and have to crash it out using Task Manager.

While waiting on hold, in line, for an expert after being transferred for the 3rd time and 45 minutes i will never get back, I came across this solution. It worked, that's all I can say, a am by no means IT friendly but even i could do this fix. Genius. Thank you so much.
@knoxfarm2020 RE: I'm also now not able to exit QB normally and have to crash it out using Task Manager.
Yes, that appears to be yet another bug Intuit introduced with the update.
Did Intuit sell out to an RV manufacturer? That's "normal" for them. Release something that's half-built, then let the dealers "finish" it under warranty.
Lyle
Unbelievable! this fix actually worked! Took not even a minute to correct. THANK YOU!
I just read thru this chat about the Summarize PR Data in Excel report having been disabled with the last update and am also frustrated by this but am just going to resign to the fact.
I want to query the community now though about the upcoming QB Desktop v2024 that I am nervous about having to upgrade to (from QB Premier 2021) in a few weeks.
Has anyone migrated there yet? Was it a smooth transition? (wishful thinking...) Did the Excel report problems remain or go away?
I have not been able to bring myself to face what this upgrade is going to cost me yet ~ I have multiple companies I bookkeep for, and have been able to carry them all within my single subscription (both software and Payroll) and am Praying that I will still be able to do that instead of having to purchase a separate subscription for each company file - Intuit has already charged me DOUBLE what I paid last year for Enhanced Payroll.
I also might as well ask if anyone has seen a good price from a Trustworthy vendor for purchasing 2024 Premier. So far, my colleagues have said they know of none, and I will have to buy it from Intuit.
Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories.

Why do that, when there's an easy solution?
Thank you for responding! The reason for me is because it's not worth rocking the boat/messing with QB 2021 since I have to switch soon anyway. I'm more focused at this point to hear from the community about what it has been like to go to v2024 and resources for purchasing it.
