Why can't I post a partial payment? My customer did not pay the late fee assessed, only the original amount.

I get an error message and qb won't post the partial payment.  due:  $361.77, paid: $344.54  It shows the balance when I get to the bottom of the page but when I hit save and close I get an error message stating the amount must match.

I'll help you record partial payments from customers in QuickBooks Online (QBO), tpa. This way, we can enter every payment made for the invoice and keep your records accurate.

Beforehand, can you tell me your way of recording the payments? Are you utilizing the receive payments options or matching a deposit to an invoice entered in the application?

If you're utilizing the receive payment feature, please ensure to enter the same amount in the Payment and Amount Received fields to save the transactions.

If the same thing happens, I recommend performing troubleshooting steps that help address unusual behavior, not limited to incorrect display of the application programming interface.

Let's begin by accessing your company file using a private window. A private window is a helpful tool for troubleshooting browser-related difficulties, as it won't preserve any history. The following are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Google Chrome: press Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: press Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: press Command + Shift + N

Once done, we can clear your browser's cache or cookies to avoid similar issues in the future. Alternatively, opting for one of the supported browsers can be an alternative.

Furthermore, gain access to your financial health by running various reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO). Having so will enable you to monitor your daily financial status.

I'll keep this post open to ensure you get the assistance you need. Just hit the reply button to post them here and I'll be on every step of the way to help. Take care!
