Why does the new generated invoice number in QBO are not in sequence?

Previously, QBO will automatically generate the invoice number for the newly created invoice.  The number is always in sequence, for example, if the last invoice number was 31445 then the next invoice number will be 31446.  However, the newly created invoice was #1753 instead of 31446.  
FYI, we haven't changed our settings since a few years ago, the "Custom transaction numbers" field is still enabled.

Hello there, HYR. I recognize the importance of having a sequence order of your invoice number in QuickBooks.

 

The changes in the sequence on the invoice number happen when you manually enter digits. Since the QuickBooks numbering system automatically generates the number based on the old numeral entered on a form. 

 

To verify, I recommend checking the last invoice number used. We can utilize the magnifying glass to search the transactions you need. 

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Click the Magnifying glass icon in the upper right-hand 
  2. Select the Advanced Search link. 
  3. Type either memoamount, or reference number in the search field. 
  4. Set the date of the invoice transaction you're looking for. 
  5. Choose Apply.

 

From there, see the last invoice number and review why the sequence changes, then edit it to continue using the desired number.

I was informed by one of the QBO support members the problem was caused by a glitch in QBO system.  It has now been resolve.
