Why is the quantity for a product in the Inventory Summary different to the total quantity shown in the Detailed summary?

Hello neena2,

There are a few factors why we see differences on the reports that are supposedly related to each other. The following factors are:

  • Report period
  • Source of the data
  • Accounting method
  • Filters
  • Affected transactions or accounts

For the Inventory Valuation Detail and Inventory Valuation Summary reports, their differences are the Report periods and Filters.

To get the same data, I'd recommend setting the Report periods like this:

  • All Dates for the Inventory Valuation Detail report
  • Today as of (current date) for Inventory Valuation Summary

Make sure to click Run report after changing the date ranges.

I appreciate you for providing screenshots above, @neena2. This way, I can be able to provide the right resolution in matching the quantity amounts in your inventory reports.

There are times that the browser is full of the frequently accessed page, thus causing some unusual responses of the QuickBooks program. You can log in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito window) to isolate the issue.

  • Press Ctrl Shift (Google Chrome)
  • Ctrl Shift (Firefox or Internet Explorer)
  • Control Option (Safari)

Once signed in, pull up the Inventory Valuation Summary and Inventory Valuation Detail reports, then compare them. If it displays the correct quantity of the product (clear toilet paper), go back to your default browser and clear its cache and cookies to refresh the system.

However, if the Inventory Valuation Summary and Inventory Valuation Detail reports still show different quantity amounts, I'd recommend using other supported browsers.

Moreover, you can use reports to get helpful insights on the things you buy and sell, and the status of your inventory. To learn more about the reports that you can check, kindly refer to this article: Use reports to see your sales and inventory status. It contains sections that guides you on how to view your best sellers, what's on hand, and the cost of your goods.

Also, you can customize the report you choose to focus on the details that matter to you most. Then, memorize it to save the current customization settings. For the detailed steps, you can refer to this article: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help.
