2024 QuickBooks Online E-Filed 1099-NEC Contractor Name and TIN Correction

Shortly after we e-filed our 1099s in January through QuickBooks Online, we realized that we made a mistake on the contractor's (recipient) name and TIN. We had to wait until February to be able to make a correction, but it's not clear if the correction has gone through correctly. According to this article:

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/form-1099-nec/correct-change-1099s-qu...

Wrong 1099 form, or contractor name or TIN is incorrect
If you filed the wrong type of 1099 form, or the contractor name or TIN is wrong, we do the following when we e-file the correction with the IRS:

1. E-file the original form again:
-The corrected checkbox is selected on the form.
-The form will include the original contractor info and TIN.
-All boxes will be zero dollars ($0).

2. E-file a new form with the correct info.

QuickBooks sent me an email that they've submitted the corrected 1099 and that I can download it from the taxes section in my account. Problem is, there is no copy of the corrected form there. In QBO, we now see two separate 1099-NECs for the contractor we made the corrections for, dated 1/16/24 and 2/20/24. Both of which are "accepted" and have the same dollar amounts. The one from 1/16/24 has the wrong contractor name & TIN and the one from 2/20/24 has the correct information. The original one has not been zeroed out and I don't see a that the corrected checkbox has been selected on the form. My question is, how can we be certain that there are not two separate duplicate 1099s filed with the IRS and that the original one has been corrected and zeroed out if we don't see that anywhere?

2024 QuickBooks Online E-Filed 1099-NEC Contractor Name and TIN Correction

It's nice to have you here in the Community, Anonymous99.

Currently, we're unable to support corrections to already submitted (by paper or e-file) 1099s. Customers have to complete and submit any corrected 1099-MISC or 1099-NEC outside QBO. That said, I recommended getting in touch directly with the IRS to do a manual amendment.

Additional information, please see this link from the IRS: General Instructions for Certain Information Returns it contains the steps to perform when discovering an error after filing a return.

Furthermore, QuickBooks offers several reports that cater to your business needs. Go through this article for the list of available payroll reports that you can use: Run Payroll Reports.

If you have clarifications about making corrections to your 1099s, please leave a reply below. We're always available to attend to your concerns. Have a great day!

2024 QuickBooks Online E-Filed 1099-NEC Contractor Name and TIN Correction

This seems to be an automated response based on outdated information. If you look at the link I referenced above, QuickBooks does now e-file 1099 corrections and I did e-file a 1099 correction through QuickBooks Online already. The only question is, where can I see the corrected 1099 QuickBooks sent to the IRS on our behalf?

Thanks for getting back to us, @Anonymous99. Let me point you in the right direction so you can get the help you need in viewing your corrected 1099s in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Yes, you're right. You can make corrections on your rejected 1099 forms directly in QBO. To view your corrected forms, you can go to Taxes, click 1099 Filings, and select View 1099 to view a PDF copy.

If you're unable to access them, I recommend reaching out to our customer support team. This way, they can pull up your account information securely and obtain a copy of your corrected forms on your behalf. To do that:

  1. Go to the Help icon and choose the Search tab.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Describe your concern and select Continue.
  4. Choose between Chat with us and Have us call you.

Moreover, you can run reports in QBO to view the necessary information about your 1099s.

Keep in touch if you have additional questions about e-filing corrected 1099 forms in QBO, and I'll respond promptly to assist you. Stay safe, and have a good one.

Just a heads up for anyone who has a similar issue.

In our QuickBooks Online account, we can see the pdf of the new 1099 that QuickBooks has submitted, but there is no pdf of the original 1099 that has been corrected (with the corrected checkbox and amounts zeroed out). I contacted QuickBooks support team 3 times and the last person was finally able to answer my question. She said this:

"For the form that has the "corrected box" checked, I was able to find an ongoing investigation why it is not showing on your QuickBooks Online account, rest assured that our team is already working on it and will have you notified via email once the "corrected form" is available either via workaround to be provided or once the issue is fully resolved."
