Correcting 1099 in QUickbooks Desktop

I can share insights about correcting 1099 in QuickBooks Desktop.

Correcting 1099 forms depends on how you submit them.

If you e-filed your 1099 forms via Tax1099, you can follow the steps below.

1. Create a new form by clicking on Forms> New Form.
2. Select Tax Year and Form Type.
3. Select Payer from the drop-down list.
4. Select Recipient from the drop-down list.
5. Click the box at the top of the form that says 'corrected'.
6. Enter the same account number from the original on the corrected form by copying and pasting from the original form (This is only required if voiding the form due to it being a duplicate.)
7. Enter the correct amount in the correct box.

• If the amount was previously reported in the wrong box, put a zero in that box and then put the correct amount in the correct box.
• If the address was wrong, update the address in the profile
• If you did not need to file for the person, enter a zero in the box where it was reported previously

      8.Save and submit.

If the forms are manually submitted, you'll need to buy a corrected 1099 form since this isn't available in QuickBooks. Once you have the corrected form, you can print it in QuickBooks Desktop and ensure the Corrected box is checkmarked.
