Does anyone else still having issues with sales tax?

I'll make sure to rectify your concerns about updating custom sales tax rates in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @rachael20. That way, we can collect the correct amount based on your business jurisdiction.

When updating your custom sales tax rate, can you tell me what exact mess you're referring to? You mentioned that the updates didn't apply; can you elaborate on which transactions it didn't apply to? If you mean that the new rates are not updating from the system, let's ensure that we have saved the changes using the steps below:

  1. Go to the Taxes menu and select Sales Tax.
  2. Click the Sales Tax Settings and navigate to the Custom Rates section.
  3. From there, locate the sales tax rate you want to make changes and click Edit.
  4. Update your rates accordingly and select Continue. Then, click Edit to save changes.

Also, please know that altering your sales tax rates will only apply to future transactions except for any entries in the past. Moreover, using your updated rates on transactions dated before the changes will use the new rates. You can go over to this article to learn more about what will happen when editing your sales tax rates: Edit sales tax rate in QuickBooks Online.

Once you have verified that the changes have been saved, yet the new rates still do not apply, we can perform browser troubleshooting steps that address unusual behavior on a cloud-based application like QBO. You can access your company file on a private browser and perform the custom rate changes in that setup.

After this, we can clear your browser's cache or cookies to avoid similar issues in the future. Alternatively, opting for one of the supported browsers can be an option.
