Hi Cmon1072,
Thank you for reaching out! I understand how important it is to maintain accurate payroll tax records, especially when certain taxes are automatically deducted by QuickBooks Online Payroll (QBO). Let me clarify the process for you so that you can manage your next payroll tax payment effectively.
Yes, QBO Elite does automatically pay Ohio School District (SD) taxes, but it will not auto-pay the very first one if it determines that you started the process mid-period. You will see a "PAY" button today, which you will need to click to make the first payment manually. After this, the system should take over for all future runs. The green button serves as a safety check; QuickBooks requires you to manage this initial payment manually to ensure everything is set up correctly before it begins processing payments automatically going forward.
Please note that you must process any outstanding taxes first ; otherwise, the system won’t be able to automatically process future tax payments. Once you enable the Auto-Pay/File feature, it will handle tax payments and filings starting on the first day of the following month.

Thank you so much!
Im so sorry, one more question. How will this be paid? If we pay it manually? It wants to record it in QBO with my bank account, but how does it get paid? A live check? We log into Ohio?

Hello there, Cmon1072.
Thank you for getting back to us. I appreciate how proactive you are in making sure everything is clear before moving forward.
Yes, you can make the payment outside of QuickBooks. Log in to Ohio's website and follow their instructions to complete the process. Afterward, manually record the payment in QBO to ensure it is properly recorded.
Once completed, QuickBooks will handle your future payments. It will automatically deduct the balance from your connected bank account and create a corresponding tax payment posting to your register.

Thanks! I manually paid it one time yesterday, as the QB advisor above said once I pay it manually, QB will pick up and pay it next time moving forward. Thanks as we just signed up with QBO payroll and the other payroll company did it for us.
