How do I change the tax rate posted when setting up sales tax for the first time during a conversion?

The instructions say I need to change it at the customer level but each of my customers deliver to different cities and have different rates. I need to change the county/city rates themselves but don't see where I can do that. Please help.

How do I change the tax rate posted when setting up sales tax for the first time during a conversion?

We're glad to know you're using QuickBooks Online to help you carry out different business tasks, laf2021. You can change the tax rate directly at the invoice level. Let's figure out how it works with the information below.

QuickBooks’ automated sales tax feature calculates sales tax for you based on your customer's tax status, the shipping or selling location, and the tax category of your product or service. QuickBooks manages the tax rules for your state, so all you need to do is specify where you collect sales tax. If you collect sales tax in other states, you can add other tax agencies.

To make sure the tax calculation is accurate based on a specific county or city, you can update the address right on the invoice:

  1. Create or open an existing invoice.
  2. Select See the math above the Invoice total.
  3. When the "How your sales tax is calculated:" window appears, go to the Location and addresses section and click Edit.
  4. Perform the necessary changes and hit Save, then Close.
  5. Choose how you want to save the transaction.

Alternatively, you can manually override the rate. Here's how:

  1. In the "How your sales tax is calculated:" window, select Override this amount at the bottom.
  2. Click Edit in the Enter sales tax manually section and modify the Rate or Amount.
  3. Specify the reason in the designated dropdown, then hit Apply override.
