I understand the importance of editing the sales tax rate to ensure compliance with the Missouri Tax rate, Pottery. I'm here to share insights about this.
QuickBooks automatically calculates the total tax rate for each sale based on the following:
If you don't want to use the based-on-location feature, you have the option to add custom rates. Here's how:

Sales tax is broken. Broken broken.
We shouldn’t have to enter custom rates to make up for this.
Spent 3+ hrs with support yesterday on two main issues:
a Lakewood address (5% sales tax) was being assigned to Denver (8.81%) and absolutely nothing would change its mind
The sales tax module randomly recalculates sales tax and gets the calculation wrong. $2415 @4% = $96.60 not $96.61. There isn’t even a rounding error to blame there. The calculation is just flat wrong.
A four alarm fire bell should be ringing at Intuit over this. Users are almost certainly not filing correct sales tax with authorities- assuming that the authorities are correct, which in at least one case yesterday was not happening! As a result they are likely putting their business at risk for penalties and fines should their state audit them.
For my clients - I have every customer address entered into the state’s website to check the sales tax rate and also the jurisdiction code (b/c the “code” Intuit spits out is worthless) and we enter that code into a custom field if available or tracking number for shipping if not. Then I pull a sales by product/service report for the period, including that code. In Excel, I then create a set of formulas to gather all the gross, taxable sales by jurisdiction. Calc the non-taxable $ and use THOSE data to submit sales tax filings for each jurisdiction. I cross-check with what QBO charged and investigate any differences, all of which takes a great deal of time, esp with some clients who have up to 30 jurisdictions each filing.
Please get this fixed!!!
I understand the inconvenience this may have caused you, PlumBookkeeperCO. Your concern is valid, take it to management to improve our customer service.
QuickBooks Online can automatically calculate the total tax rate for each sale based on where the sale takes place, the customer's tax-exempt status, and what is being sold. QuickBooks follows the correct tax-exempt rules based on the customer's address and the product being sold.
If the calculated tax rate does not match the actual rate, you can edit the sales tax rate to give you more flexibility with sales tax processing.
However, if the issue persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Online Support team again and requesting to be added to the list of affected users. This ensures that you receive timely updates on the issue via email. To contact our support team, please follow these steps:

Your Articles are probably from a script you follow to help customers, Most of us have already done those steps before we post. Here is one that you do not have, I say this because I was on the phone with a Intuit Rep the other day trying to figure out how to fix this issue for over three hours. They were about to report this to the upper level. When I did some deeper research and was able to fix my issues. Here is the issue. QBO wanted to me to use an address that was not accepted in Google and not by 911 for the Boone County in Missouri. QBO wanted me to use the Directional before the street but Google and 911 instructed that our address is formatted with the directional after the street. For example QBO 601 W. Business loop 70, Google and 911 county, has it as 601 Business loop 70 W. See the difference. Now Where does QBO pull the address info.?
