How to set up tax line mapping

I'll share some information about the sales tax setup, mmmmmm99.

When you switch from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online, not all sales tax information will be converted. To set up the sales tax feature in the online version, you can follow these steps:

  1. On the left panel, click Taxes > Sales Tax.
  2. Select the Set up sales tax button.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions in adding the address and how often you file sales tax.
  4. Hit Save once done.

You can also read these articles for more information:

For any follow-up questions about sales tax, please let me know. I'm just a post away to help you out again.

How to set up tax line mapping

Good morning, mmmmmm99.

Thanks for following up on this thread with that additional info. I want to make sure you're able to get the Payroll Tax details setup correctly in your QuickBooks Online account.

I found a great article for you that explains what to do after converting from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online. There's a section that specifically provides details on how to complete the Payroll setup. The write-up mentions, "Select Employees from the left menu, then Payroll Tax. From here, select Enter prior tax history and begin to add all of the past tax payments that you made for various agencies so far this year. They should balance out against your liabilities (excluding any current unpaid tax liabilities) so far this year."

There are a couple more Community articles that offer even more details about the Desktop to Online conversion. You can check them out here:

With this info you'll be able to complete the Payroll setup and get back to business. Please don't hesitate to reach back out if you have any other questions. I'm only a comment or post away.

How to set up tax line mapping

This may be the l"long way home" but what I do if I've already completed my own company's file and I'm choosing to go in after the fact and do my tax-mapping in preparation for tax season I'll comb through the chart of accounts and right click, select "edit" and map each account individually.

If somebody knows a faster or 'bulk' way to achieve the same result I'd be interested too but I find that going account-by-account is the most careful way to get my books right anyway.

Best of luck if you haven't figured out what you needed figured out yet sir.

How do you determine how to map each item?

How to set up tax line mapping

Great day, @Comfortcafeomaha.

Let me help you clear things out. Mapping an item will depend on its detail type.

Since it is a tax type, the account or category you select for a transaction will determine where it applies on your tax forms, typically Schedule C.

For instance, if you choose Advertising/Promotional under Detail Type when creating a new item, the expense will appear under Advertising on your QuickBooks Income Tax page and will appear on Line 8 of your Schedule C.

Feel free to read this article for more details: Learn where QuickBooks Online detail types appear on your tax forms.

We'll be always here once additional questions about item mapping pop up in your mind. Keep safe.
