Hello there, @rsamosson.

I'd be happy to assist you with turning off the automated sales tax.

If you don’t mind me asking, what happens when you turn off the sales tax? If you’re unable to turn it off, it might be because there’s a past sales transaction on your account. I agree with you that this is a known issue.

Please keep in mind that you'll need to delete any Sales Tax transactions before attempting to turn off the Sales Tax feature. Simply removing the checkmark from the taxable box on the Sales Transaction will not be sufficient. Before proceeding with the deletion of transactions, it's important to make a note of all transactions.

After you delete all transactions with sales tax, you can turn off the automated sales tax feature.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Taxes. Then, select Sales tax.
  2. Click the Sales Tax Settings, then select Turn off sales tax.
  3. Tap Yes to confirm.

Here’s a comprehensive guide that provides information on how to turn off the automated sales tax: Turn off sales tax in QuickBooks Online.
