Changing the tax rate for the Vermont Child Care Contribution to self-employed ensures accurate payroll tracking and reporting, sah. I'm here to ensure this gets sorted out.
Beforehand, are you unable to enter the rates in QuickBooks Online (QBO) Payroll? Did you encounter any error messages? It'll help us determine the cause of the issue. Adding a screenshot would be a great help, too.
If so, I suggest accessing QBO via a private window. It'll help us determine whether this is a cache-related issue. The browser you regularly use when working on your books utilizes cached data to load web pages faster. However, excessive cache can lead to problems that cause QuickBooks performance to degrade and affect the system's functionality.
When using incognito mode, it'll assist us in determining its exact cause since this doesn't save your browsing history and doesn't accumulate cache. Here are the keyboard shortcuts:
- Safari: Command + Shift + N
- Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
- Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + N
Once logged in, change the tax rates again. If you can update the info, clear the browser's cache. Doing so improves system performance, fixes program problems, and frees storage space. Using other supported browsers also helps us verify if this is a browser-specific problem.
If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They're equipped with tools to check why you can't change the rate and provide troubleshooting steps to rectify this. It'll also allow them to submit a ticket to our engineering team to alert them about the issue.

- Go to the Help (?) icon at the top.
- On the Assistant tab, click Talk to a human.
- Enter your concern in the Type something field, then click the Send icon.
- Click on I still need a human.
- Select Get help from a human.
- You can either select Chat with us or Have us call you.
