Join nowQBs notified me today (Jan 31) that I had an overdue FUTA tax payment from payroll. I was not notified before it was overdue that I had to make the payment and it seems like it is the type of payment that QBs should have made. QBs calculated the amount ($322.92), it pays our State Unemployment tax and when I went to Payroll at least 3 or 4 times in January, there was no notice about this needing action. It looks like QBs is not properly programed to handle this? We are a 501c7 social club which needs to file FUTA taxes. I had this problem in the past as I received a notice from IRS last Spring that we had not paid FUTA for a number of years. I sent this situation at that time to your "resolution" but after waiting 2 or 3 months, your Resolution said nothing. On my own, I found that a past bookkeeper must have registered us as a charity. I changed that but now don't even see where I changed it and don't seem to have that ability in QBs. When I spoke to IRS last Spring, and mentioned we use QBs, they said the vast majority of FUTA issues occur in QBs.
QBs payroll had the following notice:
"You've got some taxes we can't schedule automatically. Look for these items under action needed. For now, you may have to pay and file these yourself."
and on the same page:
"You’re all set! QuickBooks pays and files your taxes for you."
and when you click the above notice:
Federal | IRS | Withholding/Unemployment Insurance | Completed | QuickBooks | Paying and filing automatically |
The person I spoke to yesterday could not figure this out. Today, I started filling out Form 940, and my calculations shows we owe $400.31, whereas QBs had calculated that we owed $322.92. I called today and they cannot tell me how the $322.92 was calculated.
