I am working with a Quickbooks online client and they process their payroll through the online service. The last two paychecks have been calculating a 0.02% employer tax that is listed as MN Additional Assessment. When I checked on their numbers under settings, this is not an option for me to fix this to calculate as 0%. I know there was talk of adding this, but it's on the system and calculating with a number that we didn't authorize.
Accurate state tax rates should be calculated in paychecks to avoid potential tax discrepancies and maintain compliance with tax regulations, @Stirk. I'd be glad to lend a hand to ensure that correct tax rates are calculated moving forward.
The problem mainly occurs in the tax rate setup for the Minnesota Additional Assessment under the payroll settings within the program. Since you don't have the option to modify the tax rates listed, I recommend sending your tax notice so we can help you update the appropriate rates in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
To begin with, you'll need to handwrite your Federal Employer Identification Number (EIN) on the first page of your tax notice. If you have more than one notice of discrepancy, kindly send us each separately.
Once done, we can now upload your notice within QBO:


After receiving the tax notice, we’ll email the Principal Officer and Primary Admin with a case number and details for confirmation. A tax specialist will then follow up with the resolution, actions taken, and any further steps needed from you, if applicable. Please note that responses are sent only to the Primary Officer or Primary Admin.
