Problem with adding a new sales tax agency that isn't listed

I am trying to add a sales tax agency but when I type it into the proper field to start the process, the city isn't listed.

I am on the edit settings page, then I click add agency, but the city I want isn't in the drop down list.

Please note that instructions in the help file are obsolete.

Problem with adding a new sales tax agency that isn't listed

Thank you for dropping by the Community forum and sharing details regarding the issue you're experiencing while trying to add a new sales tax agency in QuickBooks Online. I understand the importance of ensuring accurate tax calculations in your account. I'm here to share information that could help you get through this.

I suggest reaching out to your local tax agency to confirm the exact name and details associated with the sales tax jurisdiction for your city. They should be able to provide you with the correct information needed for tax compliance. Alternatively, if your city isn't listed, you may want to inquire with your tax agency about any neighboring cities or jurisdictions that have similar tax calculations. It could help you find a suitable option to use in QuickBooks Online.

Once you have confirmed the correct information with your tax agency, you can try adding the new sales tax agency again in QuickBooks Online. Manually enter the details based on the information provided by your tax agency. If you encounter any further difficulties or need assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out to our QuickBooks Online Support Team. They can review your profile and provide additional guidance to ensure smooth integration with your sales tax agencies.

Problem with adding a new sales tax agency that isn't listed

I have the same problem as the other person. The City of Kanas City MO is not listed as an agency choice under the State of Missouri and it should be. Furthermore, because I  have already used Missouri as an agency, it is greyed out and can not be selected. I do NOT understand why I would need to call the city of Kansas City MO and explain this to them . They have no jurisdiction or authority to change QB online platform, but yet they do have  jurisdiction over our company to pay 1% labor tax when working in their city which is a pass through to my customers when invoiced. I have contacted QB customer support on this already and they were of no help.

Hello, But Why. I appreciate your time and effort in contacting our Support Team to look for a reason about how the lists of tax agencies work in QuickBooks and why it has been working that way.

I see that you have a concern regarding the placement of the City of Kansas and the City of Missouri under the State of Missouri within our system. Our design team has implemented a feature that grays out the state when it has already been assigned to an agency to avoid any conflicts or errors. This ensures that each agency is accurately represented.

We'd like to hear your thoughts and suggestions for enhancements. Thus, I suggest sending feedback directly to our product engineers. They'll evaluate your ideas. Here's how:

  1. Click on the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback under Profile.
  3. Enter your suggestion, then click Next

Problem with adding a new sales tax agency that isn't listed

Hi But Why,

When I couldn't find a city on the list, my workaround was to just create my own. If you need to end up with a combined rate, first start by creating a component for the city itself, and give it a unique name like Santa Fe Component. Then create the combined rate and call it something like Santa Fe Combined. It has been awhile since had to do this so I can't be more specific with my instructions, but I think it should work.
