Join nowI still have not seen a fix put out by QB for this issue they developed when they forced us to change to new format. Losing the sales tax by location feature, has me definitely looking at other software.
I found a work around to get the correct sales tax I need by over riding the incorrect % QB wants to use, after I first determine the correct rate based on location. BUT any time I go back and edit anything on the customer invoice it reverts to the incorrect sales tax rate. At least QB could you make the over ride stay with the invoice as the user intends instead of resetting it with any change to invoice. Thank you for looking in to this matter!
I appreciate you for finding a workaround on how to get the sales tax correct, @jsn80.
The new layout of the invoice in QuickBooks Online (QBO) still has the sales tax by location feature, known as Automatic Calculation. When you modify the customer's invoice, QuickBooks will automatically calculate based on the location and the changes you've made. Thus, you'll need to manually override the amount by clicking the See the Math.

With the old form I never had to manually over ride the sales tax. I have to do this now to the first draft of any invoice and then again when I need to make any modification to this same invoice.
