Sales Tax

Our website includes the shipping charges when it calculates the sales tax but our QB is set up to exclude it. Where can I change the sales tax option to include shipping charges in the subtotal that the sales tax is using to calculate?

Sales Tax

Hi there, Dawn Dockrill.

Thanks for posting your question here in the Community. I want to make sure you're able to include shipping charges with sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

Just to make sure I'm on the same page, I'm including an article that walks you through the steps to set up sales tax in your account. Ideally, QuickBooks Online will function to factor in shipping charges when sales tax is calculated. You can find out more here: Sales Tax in QuickBooks Online

You may also consider adding shipping as a line item on your invoices. This would ensure each line item is subject to sales tax.

Thanks for getting back to me, Dawn Dockrill.

I recommend consulting with your accountant about the reporting specifics for this setup. If you don't currently have an accountant you may be interested in a new service from Intuit called QuickBooks Live Expert Assisted. With this program you'll be able to connect with live accounting agents to help you whenever you need.

You may also want to reach out to the QuickBooks Online Support Team. Agents in this group have specialized tools, like the ability to share you screen, to determine why the shipping charges aren't included when sales tax is calculated. Here's how to get in touch with the team:

1. Click the Help (?) button.
2. Select either tab to get started:
  - Assistant: Get quick, personalized answers. Select a suggested option, or type a question or topic you need help with. If you decide you need further help, you can still Talk to a human.
  - Search: Search the QuickBooks Online knowledge base directly, or select Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us:
    a. Start a chat with a support expert.
    b. Get a callback from the next available expert.

The following article provides these steps if you ever need them again in the future: QuickBooks Online Support

I'll be here if you have any other questions. Take care!
