This is so discouraging: due to not even having the option to removing the "Based on location" sales tax feature.
Would be nice to see some major updates with the online system...seems to be stuck in the 80's/early 90's DOS system.
Very un-user friendly!!!
We hear your sentiments, rd.

We ran into this issue and caused huge problem for my firm and client. We had to develop a custom solution that is now working to combat the "based on location" glitch. If interested, I can provide details on the solution.
We are facing the same issue with third party software used with QBO and the sales tax based on location causing an issue. We are manually changing every invoice. I've sent a feedback to QB, hoping to keep this topic top of mind for QB development for their next enhancement/update.
Thank you
Hello. After no response from QBO, we have a custom solution for this. Feel free to reach out.

So you’re basically telling us to go and purchase another accounting software to solve this issue!!! Are you kidding me!!!! We purchase the subscription that is totally insanely priced when we can’t even get the simple tho ga accomplished!!!!
Yes I understand QBO doesn’t understand what we need….apparently you have no clue how to do sales tax!!! Why can the desktop versions work…which may I add…we were forced to go to online and pay the ridiculous pricing for a product you can’t fix!!!
You are not helping the cause of people using your software and are going to lose a lot of customers because you can’t fix something we are requesting!!!
This response is unacceptable. QBO customers are frustrated with the entry-level service and lack of support. No one has time to manually adjust tax rates; this feature needs to be addressed! We've incurred additional hours and expenses due to this poor update, alongside the other confusing changes the company has implemented. This situation is absurd and unprofessional. We are closing our companies with QBO as a result of these updates, and it’s clear that you will continue to lose more customers.
Our tax rate is 7.25 as we are outside Houston city limits as we are Annexed, so we don't pay the 8.25%.
I've informed Intuit multiple times and they promise "We will fix this". Two years later, I have to modify hundreds of invoices on the first of each month.
Moving to Xero.
We have a custom solution built to auto update invoices to the correct rate. Feel free to reach out to us. Google Advisorjr and send us a message if interested. Thanks
