what did qb change my chart of accounts from sales tax to global tax

The last update changed my sales tax category to global tax payable.  Although Sales Tax Payable is still an option it won't allow me to change it back.  Why are they even adding and changing chart of accounts?

Hi there, @kekoakat. Let me expound on how we can update the sales tax payable in your charts of accounts.

When you open the Audit Log in QuickBooks Online (QBO), you'll see the user who updated the sales tax payable. However, we don't have an option to edit the saved one. That being said, I'd recommend you'll need to create a new one and make the other inactive. After checking under the Audit Log, we'll need to go to the Chart of accounts and create a new item.

Here's how:

  1.  Click the Gear icon and select Chart of Accounts
  2. Select New and make sure to select Other Current Liabilities under Account type.
  3. Save and Close.

Let's make sure that the information added is accurate since we can't delete it, however, we can make it inactive and create a new one.

In addition, let me provide this article for you to check how to set up and use automated sales tax in QBO: Set up and use automated sales tax in QuickBooks Online

Feel free to respond in the thread for any sales tax and QBO-related matters. I'll be one click away. Keep safe.

Your last update changed it and added other accounts that weren't in the chart of accounts before.  IT IS YOUR ERROR NOT OUR>  I think the best solution is having my clients move to another software

I have 3 seperate accounts for new york sales tax and the payments arent attaching to the correct account. I have our payments in all 3 different accounts. when I look at ny sales tax it shows I am past due because it was dropped into one of the other accounts and I do not know how to change it back into one account. What a mess. I agree with you all the way..

To delete a sales tax payment, you can follow these steps:

I saw this same change in my QB online account as well. QB SHOULD NOT BE CHANGING OUR COA's !!!!

Obviously the responders have no clue that this change was made or how to actually address it. Stock info on how to add/change tax accounts is NOT a solution!

Tell me how to get rid of the Global Tax Payable account permanently. Do not give me a stock answer that is in no way addresseing the problem.

I am peftectly capable of managing my own tax payable accounts. And  STOP making changes to our COA's. It is not helpful, and it is time consuming to correct.

I appreciate you for replying to the thread, @SusanJM.

The option to delete the Global Tax Payable is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online. However, I suggest sending feedback to our Product Engineers.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear Icon.
  2. Under Profile, click Feedback.
  3. Enter your Suggestions.
  4. Then click Submit.

In the meantime, you can create a new Sales Tax for you to use and inactivate the one you're using right now.

For future reference, you can check this article to learn how to use sales tax in QuickBooks: Set up and use automated sales tax in QuickBooks Online.

Has anyone found a way to fix this?  I am new to the software and had already added my sales tax payable accounts and am unable to delete these accounts after following all of their suggestions.  This client has the potential to pay 6 different states.  I even tried to make the "Global Tax" Account a subset of the sales tax payable account and was not able to do it.  Is this normal for a software company to make these changes like this???? I have never seen such a thing from a company before - where they add accounts like this and you cannot code fix it correctly.

I recognize the experience you had when managing sales tax payable accounts in your file, FrankieBCPA. I'm here to share input on how special accounts can be managed, so you can keep going in handling your data.

With QuickBooks Online, default or special accounts like sales tax payables can't be deleted or made inactive since these are automatically created when setting up sales tax for a specific tax agency.

Thus, it might be that you've entered a customer from that specific state using a different currency when creating a transaction or a customer who's paying their invoices that are outside the US. This will automatically apply its changes from a Sales Tax Payable account to a Global Tax Payable. On the other side, the Sales Tax Payable only occurs when you have a customer who's paying their invoices inside the US. Having said that, you may want to review this reference for additional insights: Manage default and special accounts in your QuickBooks Online chart of accounts.

In addition to this, if you want to get rid of that account, you'll need to set up an identical account with a sales tax payable detail type and merge the global tax to sales tax payable.

Furthermore, I'm including this reference to help you manage tax filings and payments: Set up QuickBooks Online Payroll to pay and file your payroll taxes and forms.

I'll always be around on this thread for any additional queries when managing taxes and other tasks in your account. Feel free to leave your reply below. I'll make sure to provide further assistance. Keep safe and have a good one!
