Could you please provide the advantages and disadvantages of implementing a Remote Desktop Services (RDS) / Terminal Server environment for our QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop installation?
We are currently running QuickBooks Enterprise in multi-user mode with approximately 10 workstations accessing the company file stored on our server. We have been experiencing significant delays when processing transactions, opening reports, and loading data, often resulting in extended wait times for users.
We are evaluating whether an RDS deployment would provide better overall performance and stability. Under this configuration:
- QuickBooks Enterprise would be installed only on the server.
- Users would access QuickBooks by logging into the server through Remote Desktop Services.
- All QuickBooks processing would occur directly on the server.
- The company file would remain stored locally on the server.
Could you please advise whether this architecture would likely improve performance compared to our current setup? Additionally, are there known benefits related to reducing network traffic, database access bottlenecks, company file corruption risks, or other issues commonly encountered in traditional multi-user deployments?
We would also appreciate any recommendations regarding server specifications, licensing requirements, and best practices for supporting approximately 10 concurrent QuickBooks users.
