Printer Driver

Let me start with I am very computer illiterate.

My computer died and I had to reinstall Quickbooks 2018 on my new laptop.

I am trying to print checks and the following message appeared:

Driver Lacks Full Font Support

The printer driver you are using does not support a full range for this printout.

Click ok to print using the printer's current built-in font.

Click cancel to stop printing

click help for information about changing the printer font.

My Quickbooks help feature will not connect to the internet.

I downloaded the Quickbooks Desktop tool hub and ran that, but it did not resolve the problem.

Can anyone give me the steps to correct this issue?

Thanks so much!

To resolve this issue, ensure you select the correct printer and that it displays no error messages or warning lights. If these conditions are met, test your setup to troubleshoot further.

To test your print driver, try printing from any basic program, such as Notepad. Here is how:

  1. In the Windows Search bar, type and select Notepad.
  2. Type a few characters of text, click File, and then select Print.
  3. Select the correct printer and click Print.

If the document does not print, proceed to solution two to test your printer setup. Follow the steps below:

  1. Turn off your printer, restart your computer, and then turn the printer back on.
  2. Ensure the printer paper is loaded correctly.
  3. Click Start, open the Control Panel, and then double-click Printers and Faxes.
  4. If the printer status shows Offline, right-click the printer icon and select Use Printer Online.
  5. Double-click the printer icon. If there are print jobs stuck in the queue, click Printer, and then select Cancel All Documents.
  6. Close the queue window. Right-click the printer icon, select Properties, and then click Print Test Page.

If you are using a network printer and the test page fails to print, network connectivity issues could be the cause. For the next troubleshooting steps, please review the article: Fix printing issues in QuickBooks Desktop.

If your QuickBooks Help feature isn't connecting to the internet, it's because you are using version 2018. Your system must run the TLS 1.2 security protocol to connect. This internet security protocol ensures safety and stability for QuickBooks Desktop 2018 and earlier versions.

My printer works just fine. I can print from other programs except Quickbooks. As I stated, it does not recognize the font.
Any other suggestions??

Thanks!

@Uglyroo

Install the trial version of QB Desktop 2024 to isolate the problem. Did you encounter the same problem?

Since your printer works fine with everything else, that font warning is just a little miscommunication between QuickBooks and your printer. Let’s fix it by resetting your QuickBooks printer settings.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Locate the QBPrint.qbp file.
  2. Right-click the file and select Rename
  3. Change the name to qbprint.qbp.old and press Enter.
  4. Open your QuickBooks Desktop, head to the File menu, and select Printer Setup. Choose any transaction in the Form Name list, then click OK to refresh the settings.

After that, try printing a sample check on regular paper to verify the alignment. If the text is still off, go back to the Printer Setup menu, select Check/Paycheck, and change the Printer type to Page-oriented (Single sheets).

If the issue persists and you need to print checks right away, one workaround is to save the check as a PDF first. It will completely skip the font error, and you can print the PDF normally.

  1. Open the check you need to print in QuickBooks.
  2. Click on Print on the check toolbar right on top.
  3. Select Microsoft Print to PDF and ensure other details are correct.
  4. Choose a place to save the file, like your Desktop, and click Save.
  5. Open that new PDF file outside of QuickBooks.
  6. Print the PDF on a regular paper, and make sure the page sizing is set to Actual size, or the scale is exactly 100% so the check lines up perfectly.

I'd also recommend checking in with your IT team to double-check that you're running the latest printer driver.

Could you let me know the exact model of your printer and whether you are using Windows 10 or Windows 11 on the new laptop? Please reply below if you need any more help getting these checks printed.
