Adding new file from QBO trial to business owners QBO account

Hello! I began working as a bookkeeper with a business owner who had their books set up incorrectly.  I created a new QBO file/business with the Trial Version and am now ready for it to be added to his QBO account for both of us to access.   How do I do this?   Thank you!

Utilize a 3rd party tool to migrate data between QBO accounts.

Adding new file from QBO trial to business owners QBO account

Welcome back to the Community, @Beachkeeper.

You can export your existing list (Account, Customer Contact, Vendor Contact, and Products and Services) from your trial version and import them to the client's QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Here's how:

  1. Log into your QBO trial version.
  2. Go to the Reports menu at the left pane to get to the Standard reports page.
  3. Depending on what list you need to export, search for and run Account ListCustomer Contact ListVendor Contact List, or Product/Service List report.
  4. Customize the list report’s columns. Choose each report below to check how their columns should be ordered.
  5. After that, click the Export icon at the upper right and pick  Export to Excel in the drop-down.
  6. Open the report in Excel.
  7. Delete rows 1-4 to remove your company name and report title from the sheet.
  8. Save it again as Excel or CSV.

Once done, you can now import the lists to your client's QBO. For the detailed steps on how to do it, check out this article and proceed to Step 2Move your lists to QuickBooks Online.

To know some frequently asked questions (FAQs) about the importing process, I highly suggest visiting this article: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

Adding new file from QBO trial to business owners QBO account

This is not working.

If I send him a link to my new file can he open and add his QBO Advanced Account info to put it on his account?  He can then make himself the admin & me the acct......   Seems simple, but...........

Thanks!

Adding new file from QBO trial to business owners QBO account

Hi there, Beachkeeper.

Thank you for dropping by the Community this afternoon. If you followed the steps provided by my colleague above without any success, I would recommend signing into the business owners QuickBooks account and manually changing the info that you created in the trial company. Another option would be to reach out to our support team as they would be able to get into a screen share setting with you to see why the migration process isn't working. To reach them you can follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Go to Help (?).
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Enter your concern, then select Let's talk.
  5. Choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.

If you have any other questions in the meantime, feel free to post here anytime. Thank you and have a nice weekend.
