Can I convert my QBO company file back to QB Desktop?

I'm going to need to use my QB in an offline situation for a while, and I want to go back to using the desktop version. Can I convert or use my company file from QBO back in Desktop?

Can I convert my QBO company file back to QB Desktop?

Let me provide you with some information so you’ll be able to convert your data from QuickBooks Online to Desktop, lisa-roundrockre.

There’s some important information to know before exporting data files from QuickBooks Online to Desktop. Make sure to follow the suggestions to ensure a seamless conversion process.

  • Exporting QuickBooks Desktop is only available in the US version.
  • You must be a Master Administrator, Company Administrator, or invited accountant to use the export feature.
  • Use a computer with Microsoft Edge 10 or higher.
  • You must have a supported version of QuickBooks Desktop for Windows installed on the PC where you’re performing the export process.

First, you'll have to purchase the QuickBooks Desktop version that will suit your needs and then install it on your device.

Once done, you can now start exporting data. This can be done using the supported browsers: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, or Safari. Please keep in mind that when converting between QuickBooks versions, some transactions may not be moved due to export limitations

Here's how to export them:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Export data under Tools.
  2. Select the Reports or Lists you want to export.
  3. Click on Learn more link under the Moving to QuickBooks Desktop. section.
  4. Tap on Download company data under Moving to QuickBooks Desktop.window.
  5. Hit Get Started to continue the process.

If you're unable to export your data, pulling the direct URLs from Chrome to Microsoft Edge will route you to the correct page. Use the following link to initiate the download: http://qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt

For an overview of the conversion process, check out the following articles. These resources outline the complete steps on how to move your online data to the desktop platform. From there, you’ll be able to see what information doesn’t convert (QBO to QBDT)

Keep me posted if you have additional questions about the conversion process in QuickBooks. Have a great day!

This is excellent information, thank you! It seems this will be a bit more complicated than I had hoped, but at least I can put a plan together. Also, I can export to QBD and make sure everything is good before changing anything in QBO.
