Hi @Ryan_M,
>>Although there isn't a provided time frame as to when this feature to bypass passwords will be implemented...
Ok, this is an easy fix -- Contact the development group and get a timeline. Provide this information to your requesting customers. Honestly, the fact that this has not been done for over a year makes Intuit look incompetent.
>> As for legal reasons, Intuit is a member of the Security Summit. More on this can be found in this online PDF file: About the Security Summit.
I thoroughly examined the PDF, and it's associated website, and could not find any legal requirement requiring a password in all situations. Please provide more details.
Lastly, what is the newest version of QuickBooks that does not have this password requirement?
Handling your issue or concern is our top priority, @CertifiedSecurityEngineer.
We want to ensure you'll get the best service while also ensuring you'll get the help needed. I want you to know that hear you and your voice matters, thus, I'll be passing along your requests directly to our product developers.
Also, the feature to bypass the password requirement isn't included yet within the latest released versions. While waiting, you can always visit the following links below for the future product updates:
Reach out to us if you have any other questions. Always around ready to assist you.
Nearly every response from Intuit to every customer says something like: "I want you to know that hear you and your voice matters, thus, I'll be passing along your requests directly to our product developers."
It's been over a year with no fix. Do you realize how incompetent this makes you look?
Also, you never answered my question:
What is the newest version of QuickBooks that does not have this password requirement?
I'm furious with my new purchase. I can't believe I have to type in Password1 every time I want to open my files...
Please give us the option to remove passwords
Again, I ask. What are the newest versions of QuickBooks that do not have this password requirement?
I've done the following research:
2013 R18 - no password requirement
2014 R1 - no password requirement
2014 R17 - password requirement
2016 R6 - no password requirement
2016 R17 - password requirement
It's very time consuming for me to perform these tests, and I don't have access to all versions & updates. Intuit, please update this list so your customers can determine were they should stop upgrading.
Thanks
@JonpriL, you said "Handling your issue or concern is our top priority"
This is clearly not true, otherwise it would have been fixed month ago.
It must be hard to work for a company that forces you to lie to customers and especially hard for someone in a customer service role. It's difficult to have pride in your work in this situation.
I really feel sorry for you and your coworkers. I cannot imagine working for company that treats you like that.
I've been a QB user for nearly 30 years. I sure wish I had found this forum and message thread prior to upgrading today, or I would have stayed with my 2014 version which did NOT require a password. If I can find my previous install CD I'll uninstall this 2020 version in a heartbeat and go back to no password requirement. QB, you've heard overwhelmingly from every customer here that we want the option to turn off passwords. All you say is that you hear us and will pass it on to the developers. Baloney. I've been a software developer for 35 years. This is not hard to do.
I appreciate you fro using the product for 30years, longtimeuser1.
The option to remove the password security for QuickBooks Desktop is unavailable. This protects your critical data such as your Social Security Number, Company EIN, Bank Information (Routing Number, Account Number), or Vendor Tax ID. Though, you'll be asked to change the password every 90 days.
However, you can log into QuickBooks without having to enter a username and password every time. Just use the same Windows user account. Then, log in with your username and password once every few days. this way, you can open the company file or switch to another one without re-entering your login credentials.
For the steps and details, please refer to this article: Stay logged in to QuickBooks company file (sign in without entering your password).
I've got a link here that provides you with articles about data and security: Manage your Intuit account, login, password, and data.
The Community will always have your back if you need anything else in QuickBooks. Keep safe and healthy.
QB or Intuit DON'T GIVE A C.R.A.P about what we as users want! If you haven't figured that out by reading the thread, you never will. They FORCE things upon the user. The best we can hope for is that a better company will provide a product so we can DUMP QUICKBOOKS FOREVER!!!!!!!!
You seem to be spending far to much time passing the buck to articles that we could care less about; WHY WE ARE FORCED TO USE A PASSWORD. Nobody cares why QB thinks it knows better than the consumer and forces it on us. PLAIN AND SIMPLE - OPTION TO DISABLE! I'm sure it could even be done through a patch or update. Perhaps if you focused more time getting that implemented and less time passing the buck to senseless articles we all would stop complaining.
The password requirement in QUICKBOOKS is ridiculous. Quickbooks should provide an option for those people who really need some type of security because several people work with the system. What about when a one-person company only the owner has access to quickbooks? It's frustrating to log in with passwords when you are the only person accessing your computer. Quickbooks should provide alternative to this annoying condition. By signing a not-harm agreement QB can avoid any Liability if this is their concern. I hate to use a password every time I want to access one of my client because I am the only person who can access and use my computer....Let's wait some response from QB...
WHAT??? We currently have QuickBooks Enterprise Desktop 2017 and use the QB SDK to enter most of our transactions from our database to QuickBooks. We do not WANT to use a password as we manage upwards of 100 files. So - are you saying that if we upgrade to QuickBooks 2020 that we will HAVE to put a password on each of these files??
Our IT department is telling us that if we want new computers that we will have to upgrade to QuickBooks 2020 Enterprise Edition. I am the financial applications manager, and it is my job to test products prior to updates. We are currently using a database and Intuit's SDK (Version 13) that automatically enters transactions into QuickBooks for us. We are simply using QuickBooks to produce simply financial statements for us. We DO NOT want to put passwords on upwards of 100 files. I have been reviewing the comments in this thread and I see that Intuit's seems to be "skirting" the request to NOT have passwords on the files. In the past - so long as we did not put ss#s or other sensitive data in the Company Information screen, we did not need to put a password. That is what we still want - no password. Why has this changed? Who do you think your are policing here? Why do you think that you know what is best for us? We do not want to move this to the cloud - we have these files on our secure network.
Bottomline, do you have ANY plans in the near future to remove this requirement? If not, we will search for an alternative to QuickBooks for producing our financial statements. Thank you.
Oh - and I would appreciate it if you can please respond to my specific question so I know you are not a robot responding with a canned answer...
I am a small business as well, I don't use TIN nor EIN in our company file, and all our credit card transaction are processed by our web-site company. The only sensitive information I use is the bank account number for online bank transaction download.
I really don't see the need that Intuit forces me to use a password.
I have used older QB version before which did not use company file passwords.
Further I am on a secure network. Intuit should allow me to switch this option on or off in the preferences.
Please stop saying you'll pay attention to our comments and pass on our feedback. If there is one thing that's abundantly clear, it's that neither of the above is true. Quickbooks does not care what its users want. A fact it will no doubt become wise to as competitors (e.g. Xero) continue to grow and steal it's market.
How is it that QuickBooks does not have Single Sign On?
Please include it.
I work with a large number of clients that use Quickbooks. 80% of them write their QB password on a sticky note on their monitor. The others complain all the time because they lose them and forget them.
It should be an option to turn off the annoying passwords.
I understand the password requirement for companies with employees. However, I am a sole proprietor with no employees. No plans to hire employees. No one other than me uses Quickbooks - or this computer for that matter. Who am I protecting my information from? ME??
Please find a way to allow us to delete the requirement for a password.
This is a design for Intuit to have more control of OUR company. BS
The designers know. They just don't care what the customers want.
That's a lie. There's no one to "protect" this data from in the case of a one-person company on one secure computer. You just don't care what your customers want.
This feature has been requested countless times. You can verify this by doing a Google search. You just don't want to help your customers. Quit wasting our time even more than your product already does.
Your justification for this intentional roadblock to enjoying your product is bogus. When your product is already installed on a secure computer then your additional password is pointless. You just don't want to help your customers enjpy using your product. If you did, then you would read the comments here and not make a fool of yourself by mocking it with your specious reply. Just be honest and admit you don't care.
That's a lie. There is no additional security provided by your password requirement on an already-secure computer in a one-person company. You're making a fool of yourself by mocking the feedback of your customers in this thread.
No, it isn't important if the computer is already secured. Furthermore, your onerous requirements encourage writing the password on a post-it note. IF you'd actually read the comments here you'd see how foolish you sound.
